‘The Trash Queen Castle’
An imagined world emerges where ocean and waste collide. Inspired by this union, Adèle Visser wrote a contemporary fairytale and created a sculptural installation from bricks made of burnt oyster shells and pressed, shredded aluminium cans. She developed these materials through an extensive process of experimentation, exploring how natural and manmade discarded elements could coexist. In the entrails of the vortex of plastic, the structure echoes the mythical Trash Queen’s castle: a place built on contradiction, curiosity and hope. ‘The Trash Queen Castle’ invites viewers into a space where ecological grief and imagination meet. By stepping into this fragile queendom, we are encouraged to question our relationship with waste, widen our perspective and consider new ways of belonging in our changing world.

‘My impromptu wedding ceremony with Trash’, in Eindhoven.
The ceremony was magically in place. Under a plastic veil, barefoot on the asphalt, eyes closed. I try to swallow this moment, I inhale it. The sound of the waves, the rumbling of the highway, the wind making the plastic dance.
It crackles. I drank the water, I got married. When I got married to the trash can, I was told five minutes beforehand, and that was fine with me, it made sense.
